What is the Placenta and what does it do?

The Placenta? What is it and why do we have it?The placenta is an organ that is created after the embryo (the egg) embeds itself into the wall of the uterus, some of these cells burrow deeper into the uterus wall which forms the placenta. This is the organ that keeps the baby / Fetus alive before it is born earthside. Think of the placenta as a circulation pool of blood, which carries nutrients and oxygen to the baby and also removes or recycles waste such as Carbon dioxide. This all happens through the umbilical cord which contains 2 Arteries and 1 vein. The vein drains the waste and the arteries carry the nutrients to the baby from the mother into the placenta and through to the baby. The placenta essentially acts as the Lungs, heart, and liver throughout the pregnancy.
